The Problem: A generic system

Disney partnered with Wizeline to bring a delightful user experience to their internal customers when leveraging the asset management system, a platform that stores and manages different types of media: subtitle files, videos, billboards, metadata, to mention a few.

When you're Disney, you can't afford to use Google Drive or Sharepoint to manage your business. This is why we worked on a series of improvements to bring true joy and delight to their customers.

Key Contributions

The Solutions Architecture team did a fantastic job at scoping potential opportunities and solutions to implement during the engagement, so there were a lot of "commitments" on the Statement of Work. This is pretty common when working on a consulting company. It is hard to scope outcomes, as they are harder to measure (and honestly, more daunting) than scoping outputs, which are easier to say "we're done".

However, I encouraged my team to have a "yes, and" mindset, and work with Disney stakeholders to get to the root of their requests.

  • What was the feature requested in the first place?

  • How would we know whether we were solving the right problem or not?

  • What other options could we consider?

By building strong relationships with stakeholders and subject matter experts, I was not only able to open the conversations about possibilities, but also get access to real users to test our hypotheses.

One of the hypotheses we developed was external share, to facilitate access of assets to people outside of Disney.

Designing the Design System

As the Design Lead, I partnered with my fellow designer as well as the Engineering lead on a pitch to develop a lightweight Design System that could not only ensure consistency across features and experiences, but also expedite the development process by sticking to a set of tried-and-true patterns. Disney really appreciated our commitment to provide the best possible experience through the asset management system.

Final Outcome & Learnings

This was the last project I led while working at Wizeline. I was not there when the team implemented the last feature. However, when our main stakeholder, Andrea Vayda, was notified I was leaving the company, she told me she appreciated working with someone so thorough and committed as me. That is the highest compliment I could have ever received. In addition to that, the team invited me to the celebration when they finished the project, and that meant a lot to me as well.
